Senior Business/Legal Affairs & Copyright The Opportunity:Bringing a catalogue of over 100,000 high quality, original music tracks to international film, TV, advertising and digital businesses, our client is one of the most exciting and fastest growing businesses in the global music industry. We’ve been building a company where amazing minds thrive and are currently rapidly investing and growing our North America presence. Working out of our New York office, you’ll be a key member of the leadership team and be responsible for overall North American business. This exciting role involves structuring, negotiating and drafting agreements with music publishers and production, distribution and media companies, as well as composers and songwriters who create music for us. He or she will be the primary point of contact for our North America relationships with Performing Rights Associations (PROs), handle music contract and copyright-related matters as they arise, and will likely need to dig into local law and practice across multiple territories, and should be extremely comfortable counselling business partners and making decisions that have both legal and business impacts. Key Responsibilities · Manages our relationship with our Performing Rights Associations in North America – ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, SOCAN.· Assists sales team in negotiating publishing, production and distribution, revenue and incentive deals, with producers, composers, and publishing industry executives.· Collaborates with GM to guide publishing strategy and maximize revenue from TV (primary focus), branded content (secondary focus) and online platforms· Supports and advises GM, senior execs and TV/BC teams on business, legal, and rights-related matters· Manages royalty tracking processes to improve efficiencies and drive return· Manages, supports, mentors and develops Publishing Team, North America· Protects the Company’s IP rights in North America· Develops plans & forecasts, in conjunction with the Sales team, for publishing revenue in North America, working in conjunction with the Global Publishing team in the UK, identify key trends for publishing revenue growth in North America.· Informs market sizing calculations for North American and Latin America Relationships · Develop strong business relationships with client-end deal-makers, rights organizations (ASCAP), industry associations (PMA), and data partners (e.g. Tunesat)· Define client needs and opportunities for better working relationships, to obtain “approved vendor” status as requested· Support TV and Branded Content teams with business development opportunities (e.g. revenue share models, publishing partnerships, etc.). Collaborations · Collaborate with, and support Director of Publishing on deals, rights, affiliations and legal· Support Finance team on reporting and tracking of income· Provide local expertise supporting music team and composer relationships· Partner with Branded Content team to analyze royalties from advertising, developing a strategy of focused sales and better revenue tracking Qualifications & Experience· 5+ years of music publishing experience/PRO environment, including immersion in structuring, negotiating and drafting composer, performer and featured artist agreements, master use and synchronization license agreements, music producer agreements, record company and music publishing waivers; in-depth knowledge of music copyright and the film/TV production process - from script to budget to music clearance/licensing to composer engagement/recording through to delivery, cue sheets and launch; practical knowledge of the music and technology industries (including active relationships with music agents, managers, music publishers, record companies and music libraries); and understanding of the evolving theatrical, VOD, TV, syndication and home video landscapes. International market experience and international production experience is a plus.
